This week was the unveiling of the new roadway design for 51st Ave in the Nations. Mayor Megan Barry, joined by Council Member Mary Carolyn Roberts and members of the community, cut the ribbon on Monday to celebrate the new design.

The new design features a protected two-way cycle track (bike lanes), on-street parking, center turn lane and a single travel through lane in each direction. This portion of the design stretches between Alabama Ave. and Centennial Blvd. with traditional lanes stretching from Alabama Ave. to Richland Creek Greenway. Our first impressions are that we love all of the green paint and bollards creating a physical separation between the lanes. We'll be keeping an eye on this new design to see if it will increase ridership and safety on this corridor and keep you updated on what we think.

It's exciting to see the progress our city is making in keeping all road users in mind when redesigning our streets. Thanks to all parties that made this happen, including Mayor Barry, Council Member Mary Carolyn Roberts, Metro Planning Department and Metro Public Works. Be sure to
