Since 1998, Walk/Bike Nashville has worked to build a more walkable, bikeable, and livable Nashville.  Our programs and services strive to achieve the following goals:

EDUCATE:  Educate Nashvillians so that they can safely access the city’s streets, bikeways, greenways and sidewalks.

ENGAGE:  Promote fun, meaningful events for walking and biking with the understanding that these events can positively impact walking and bicycling activity in our city.

ADVOCATE:  Promote public policy that supports our mission and serve as an advocate for pedestrians and bicyclists by working with key stakeholders to continually improve the availability and safety of sidewalks, bikeways, and greenways.

Educational Programs

Walk Bike University (WBU):  Growing the number of Nashvillians biking and walking through education , raising awareness, and cultivating bicycle and pedestrian leaders.

Safe Routes to School (SRTS):  SRTS is an international movement to create safe, convenient, and fun opportunities for children to bicycle and walk to and from school. SRTS programs aim to decrease inactivity while improving attendance and academic achievement.

Travel Green: Travel Green provides education to local businesses to help grow their walking and biking culture. We work with businesses to provide information and guidance on expanding their active transportation culture. Explore some of the ways Travel Green can help you become more bike friendly!

Engagement Events & Services

Bike Valet:  Offering secure bike parking to encourage convenient bicycle transit options and bicycle-friendly community events.

Bike Month:  Each May, Nashville celebrates Bike Month -- a month dedicated to celebrating with various bike-friendly events and activities including:

  • Walk and Roll to School Day : Part of National Bike to School Day, Walk & Roll to School day is an inclusive event to promote active transportation at school.
  • Bike to Work Day:  Join one of our area group rides on your way to work this May.
  • Tour de Nash:  Nashville's largest urban bike ride offering group rides for bicyclists of all ages and skill levels.

Walk Nashville Month:  Each October, Nashville celebrates Walk Month -- a month dedicated engaging Nashville in more walking and raising awareness of pedestrian safety issues.

  • Walk to School Day:Walk to School Day occurs each fall and encourages active transportation throughout the year. Each year Walk Bike Nashville supports events at schools across the city.

Open Streets Nashville: Open Streets Nashville is a movement to activate people, strengthen businesses and inspire public spaces by temporarily closing streets to cars. 

Advocacy Efforts

Local Advocacy: Walk Bike Nashville advocates for policies and infrastructure that support walking and bicycling. Check our our blog for new of our latest efforts.

Walk Bike Ambassadors: Our Ambassadors are our core group of volunteers and advocates. All Ambassadors attend a 2-hour training on advoacy, change-making and our transportation system. 

Tennessee Bike Summit:  Join sustainable transportation advocates, traffic engineers, planners, public health officials, researchers, cycling retailers, and elected officials to share knowledge and build a more bike-friendly Tennessee.
