Programs

Walk/Bike Nashville works to build a more walkable, bikeable, and livable Nashville through its ongoing programming. This page details our current programs.

Bike Parking
Walk/Bike Nashville operates secure bicycle parking at local events to encourage more Nashvillians to bike instead of drive. Active transportation not only improves your health and spirit; it also saves you money! Why pay for parking when you can leave your bike with Walk/Bike Nashville for free? Our bike parking tent also provides our members and volunteers a great opportunity to discuss active transportation issues with the broader community. Are you planning an event that needs additional secure bicycle parking? Contact us!

Free Bike Shop
Free Bike Shop is an inclusive weekly workshop that aims to reduce barriers to bicycling by providing free equipment safety checks, basic bicycle maintenance, and repair skills training to all Nashvillians. An inclusive open forum, Free Bike Shop welcomes both beginner cyclists and experienced wrenches to share skills and knowledge. Free Bike Shop will relaunch in 2012 on February 11. Please contact us for more information about Free Bike Shop.

Bicycle Rodeos for Civic Organizations
Walk/Bike Nashville conducts hour long bicycle safety workshops called "bicycle rodeos" in partnership with local organizations. Walk/Bike Nashville commonly works with include boy scout troops, PTAs, rotary clubs and other community and faith based organizations. Would you like to host a Bicycle Rodeo at your organization? Train the Trainers
In 2008, Walk/Bike Nashville was awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation "Active Living By Design" grant.  Through this grant, Walk/Bike Nashville was charged with writing a two week long bicycle and pedestrian curriculum that pulled from national bike/ped curriculums, a Tennessee specific tool that was easy to use and related to health and physical education standards.

Since the curriculum has been written, Walk/Bike Nashville has trained over 125 teachers in the Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Sumner and Wilson county region and has presented the "Train the Trainers" curriculum at a number of state and regional conferences.  In early 2010, Walk/Bike Nashville partnered with MTSU's Center for Physical Activity and Health in Youth to bring expanded support to teachers in Sumner, Wilson and Rutherford counties.
